Occupational Health and Safety Policy

It is evident that Catholic values of care, compassion and respect shall be evident in the behavior of all staff who will strive to establish a safe, welcoming working environment. Each staff member brings unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives to their roles, which must include effective health and safety values. These benefits of pro-active health and safety provisions will be our primary consideration while striving to achieve the goals set forth in the mission statement.

Occupational Health and Safety is a priority and it is anticipated that all staff and students will play an active role in creating safe working environments. Staff will be vigilant in their expectations of safe behaviours and cooperate with the site health and safety representative. In summary, the following is expected:

1) The promotion and protection of Occupational Health and Safety for all employees, students and members of the public who use Board facilities.

2) The provisions of a safe environment will be upheld and actively promoted by all employees and trustees of the Board.

3) All partners (i.e. teachers, support staff, students, parents, governmental units, agencies and ratepayers) will join in playing active roles in the creation of safe working environments.

The Joint Health and Safety Committee has provided each school with two new MSDSheet (Material Safety Data Sheet) binders. One is to be located in the General office, and the other one should be located in the Custodian office. MSDS binders are mandatory under W.H.M.I.S legislation.
