Learning from Home with Google Classrooms

Learning from home is a new experience for you and me. To support students and parents learning from home our teachers have created a Google Classroom where they will post-learning activities. To access new learning activities you may log into your child’s Gmail account or open Google Classroom and view the Class Stream.

Joining Google Classroom as a Student

Log into your student SNCDSB Google Account through the Chrome web browser. Here is a short video that will show you how to log into Chrome.

If you don’t have Google Chrome you will need to download the program if you have a mobile phone or tablet you can download the application. If you are using a home computer please follow the following video instructions or visit https://www.google.com/chrome/ .

Accept an invitation to Google Classroom from your teacher

  1. Go to classroom.google.com.
  2. On the class card, click Join.
  3. If asked at any point: our class code is _________ (Your classroom teacher will send you this code)

To learn how to use Google Classroom with your child please view this short video.

Gmail account information:

Email: last five digits of student number@sncdsb.on.ca Password- birthdate- YEAR/MONTH/DAY, for example- (8 numbers)

After you have signed into Chrome you can access the SNCDSB Hub, http://sncdsb.elearningontario.ca. There are many resources available to your student through SNCDSB Hub, the school board landing page. Please explore some of these applications and programs with your child.

Google Classroom can also be accessed through an Xbox or Playstation

Xbox and Playstation

Classroom can be opened on Xbox and Playstation. There isn’t an app that the students can add to their consoles. Instead, they are going to have to use the built-in browsers that come on the two devices. On Xbox, it is Microsoft Edge. On Playstation, it is the “www” browser. Your students will probably know how to find the browsers on their consoles, but if not, each one has a search function they can access on the home screen.

Once the browser has been opened:

  1. Type in classroom.google.com in the URL bar.
  2. A prompt for a Google account will appear.
  3. Type in your school district email and password – it doesn’t end in google.com and that is ok!
  4. The Classroom home screen will open up.
