Makerspace Event at Holy Saviour School
On May 7th, Holy Saviour School hosted a Makerspace Event for the community. Makerspace is a collaborative workspace for making, learning, exploring and sharing, that uses high tech to no tech tools. In addition, a team of Holy Saviour parents, teachers, and community partners worked to achieve Gold Status Certification with Ophea Healthy Schools. We are excited to share that Holy Saviour received notification that we reached our goal and have achieved Gold certification!! This acknowledgement recognizes the school community for the work it has done to enhance the health and well-being of students, staff, families and the broader community.
The event on May 7th included staff, families, students, parent council and community partners. Collectively, we created and hosted a variety of interactive learning spaces for the community to explore, learn and tinker. Some of these stations included: BBQ, Yogourt Parfait Station, Healthy Beverages, Book Fair, Pet Therapy, Marathon Fire Dept. Obstacle Course, Calming Strategies, Prayer Rocks, Green Screen, Break Out EDU kits, Growing Tower & Greenhouse, Sporting Stations, Music, Liquid Smudging, Yoga and How to Tie a Fisherman’s Knot. We have continued our work to develop a healthy school by purchasing a set of bikes, trikes and scooters for our Primary students, a set of yoga mats for school-wide yoga & meditation lessons, equipment to support relationship building and outdoor play (sandbox, picnic tables, benches and outdoor play equipment) and equipped our Makerspace with cooking tools and utensils to further develop cooking lessons and programs for students to learn about eating and preparing healthy foods.

We thank all our community partners, parents, parent council, families, friends and students who joined in to support our event and took part in helping us achieve our Gold Certification!
