St. Hilary and St. Edward participate in Road Race
St. Hilary Catholic School and St. Edward Catholic School sent 40 students to participate in the Marathon Elementary Road Race. Students practiced twice a week for their events for four weeks. Students age 7, 8 and 9 years old ran 1.5 km, students 10 and 11 years old ran 2 km and 12 and 13 years old ran 3 km. On race day there was a mix-up and the 9-year-olds race actually ran 2 km instead of the 1.5 km planned.
Students arrived at the Marathon Recreation Centre and warmed up for the event. The sun was shining and athletes were cheering each other on as they ran
and raced. All students received a participation ribbon and many Superior North Catholic District School Board students received a medal for their
accomplishments. After the hard run, students enjoyed the cool Portside Pool at the Recreation Centre in Marathon.
