St. Joseph Students Visit the Elderly
St. Joseph’s Grade 5/6 Class Visit the Elderly
Mrs. Cora Strain and her Grade 5/6 class from St. Joseph School are learning more than empathy and compassion by visiting the elderly at the John Owens Evans Residence which is the long-term care facility in the Geraldton Hospital.
Mrs. Strain wants her students to understand the importance of youth - elder relationships and to instill the value of volunteering and understanding what it means to be active in the community.
Each month they plan an activity to help build these relationships, for example, this month they played games with the residents. An added bonus for the students was meeting one special resident, Agnes Wenjack, Chanie Wenjack’s mother.
