On behalf of Superior North Catholic District School Board (SNCDSB), Holy Angels Catholic School was invited to bring a Student Leadership Team to attend
and participate in WE Day Toronto 2017 on Sept. 28, 2017.
WE Day is the Olympics for change-makers. The Academy Awards for real people who are making a difference. It fills stadiums around the globe. It’s live-streamed.
It’s broadcast. WE Day is a powerful, life-changing experience with world-renowned speakers and performers, mixed with real inspirational stories of
change. www.we.org
The board educator team was also invited to the Grand Opening of the WE Global Learning Centre that opens on on September 27, 2017. The WE Global Learning
Center is a community space that makes doing good doable for youth and adults in Canada and internationally. With world-class technology, leadership
programs, social issues workshops and event rentals, the WE Global Learning Center is an innovative hub where action plans come to life and transformative
change is created.
Six Gr. 7/8 students who have shown leadership qualities over the years attended WE Day, a celebration of young people committed to making a difference.
Over the last few years, Holy Angels Student Leaders have committed to local and global actions like:
Push for Change, Sleep Out Challenge (fundraising, and bringing $500 back to the community)
In Chanie’s Footsteps - bringing awareness to the Chanie Wenjack story and Gord Downie’s quest for awareness about residential schools
Fundraising to help shingle Holy Angels Church Roof
Working at the Harvest Cupboard Food Bank, to stock shelves and donate goods
While attending WE Day, the students of Holy Angels Catholic School experienced hearing inspirational stories of change, mixed with listening to world-renowned
performers. Me to We is a life-changing philosophy that creates socially conscious experiences that allow people to do good through their everyday
choices. They even got to listen to a powerful surprise message from Prince Harry reminding them of the power of kindness.
By participation in Student Council activities that make a difference in their school, community and for different causes (ie Orange Shirt Day, Purple
Shirt Day, Bullying Awareness) Girolamo, Nicholas, Grace, Blake, Raoul, and Marie represented Holy Angels Catholic School at WE Day! The Holy Angels
School Leadership team will continue to work together to make a difference in our school, community and as global citizens.
This opportunity to attend We Day offered our students an opportunity to learn a new way of living and witness the celebrations of the purest, most basic
impulse of humanity - reaching out to others.
Together WE can be a force for positive change, and our GEN WE students can show us how to be positive agents of social change.
