In Memory of Children from the Kamloops Residential School

In Memory of Children from the Kamloops Residential School
Posted on 05/30/2021

The Superior North Catholic District School Board is deeply saddened by the news of the tragic discovery of a mass grave of 215 children found on the site of the former Kamloops Residential School in British Columbia. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, as well as with all Indigenous communities across Canada.

We ask our school communities to wear orange on May 31 in loving memory of the 215 Indigenous children that never returned home from residential school.

All flags at Superior North Catholic District School Board schools and buildings will be flown at half-mast from Monday, May 31, 2021, to Friday, June 4, 2021, in respect of the 215 children and their families.

We pray for the spirits of the children, their families and the many survivors of residential schools who continue to be deeply affected by this terrible part of our history.

Support for former residential school students and those affected are available through the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation - Residential School Crisis Line. To access emotional and crisis referral services, call the 24-hour national crisis line: 1-866-925-4419.
