Student Family Support Office

Student and Family Support IconAt SNCDSB, we believe that student success is built on a foundation of strong partnerships with our families. By working together and maintaining open and honest dialogue, we create a community where every child is supported to reach their full potential, both academically and spiritually.

To better serve families, the Ministry of Education’s PPM 170 establishes provincial standards for consistent and reliable communication. In alignment with this policy, our Student and Family Support Office has developed a protocol to ensure all inquiries receive direct, accurate, and easy-to-understand responses.

Process

Parents/guardians are encouraged to bring forward inquiries regarding their child’s education through the following levels:

  1. Contact Your Child’s Classroom Teacher: Inquiries should be directed to the classroom teacher or relevant support staff.
  2. Contact the School Principal: School administration staff will respond to questions related to school-wide inquiries or unresolved classroom-level inquiries.
  3. Contact the Student and Family Support Office: The Student and Family Support Office is available to assist families who need additional support after connecting with their child’s teacher and school principal, or when a concern is not school-related. Our office can help clarify next steps, connect you with the appropriate superintendent or provide resources and guidance.

Responding to Concerns

The Superior North Catholic District School Board (SNCDSB) is committed to developing meaningful partnerships with families. Education is a shared experience involving home and school, and we believe that open communication strengthens relationships between families, schools and communities. Therefore, it is our practice to address concerns in a sensitive, respectful and private manner.

This page gives an overview of how our school system is structured so you can find the right person to help address your concerns.

Who do you call first?

If you have a question or concern about your child's education, start by speaking with your child's teacher. If you need more support, contact the school's principal.

If your question or concern has not been addressed, our Student and Family Support Office can help. We can answer questions, provide information and support and help connect you with the appropriate school board staff or services.

When you contact our Student and Family Support Office:

  • we will acknowledge your inquiry within 2 business days
  • we aim to provide an answer within 5 business days

To help us respond to your inquiry, please provide:

  • your name and contact information
  • your child's name and school
  • a description of your question or concern
  • any steps you have already taken to try to resolve the issue

Understanding Roles and Responsibilities?

School staff are directly involved in the daily operations of your child's school.
  • Teachers: The classroom Teacher ensures that your child is learning the curriculum and reports to the Principal.
  • Principal: The Principal manages the overall operations of the school and is well-versed in both school and Board procedures and policies.

Superintendents are part of the Board's Executive Council, and they are responsible for the operations of the school board. School Principals report to a Superintendent. They are directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the overall school system and are responsible for board-wide programs.

The Chief Executive Officer/Chief Education Officer (CEO/CEdO) is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of all schools and departments. The CEO/CEdO works closely with the Board of Trustees and oversees the Superintendents and Department Managers, ensuring that board-wide goals and procedures are effectively implemented. While not involved in the day-to-day school operations, the CEO/CEdO plays a critical role in shaping the educational experience for all students across the system.
