Holy Angels Catholic School Grade ¾ class in Schreiber rose to the challenge of learning mathematics in a digital setting this spring! The students didn't let the pandemic get them down, as they applied knowledge and skills from fractions, multiplication and division, and financial literacy lessons using virtual manipulatives and technology like screen sharing.

In the following videos, students were exploring their problem solving skills in the virtual environment of distance learning. Students creatively solved real-life scenarios through the use of Flipgird, an online video sharing website, in order to display their various student-driven strategies. Students chose to represent and model their thinking in various ways, and most importantly by using strategies they felt confident in sharing.

"I was absolutely stunned that they were able to simply walk around their house and deeply interact with their understanding of fractions. They truly demonstrated their understanding of fractions by interacting with objects they actually use on a daily basis. It was a proud moment for me as a teacher!" shared Mr. Stephens, the Grade ¾ teacher at Holy Angels Catholic School

Superior North Catholic District School Board's Math Team loves seeing educators and students problem solving and engaging in innovative ways to learn and apply their knowledge to everyday life! Great job Holy Angel's mathematicians!
