Students at Superior North Catholic District School Board enjoyed the opportunity to access live theatre through digital tools. Magnus Theatre reimagined how to bring performing arts to elementary students through the pandemic and titled their Spring series Theatre for Young Audiences Online School Tour. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 enjoyed Lig & Bittle and Students in Grad 4 - 8 viewed This Will Be Excellent. Lig & Bittle encouraged students to be who they are and be the best version of themselves. This Will Be Excellent inspired students to a spark of motivation will foster great things.

Little and Big performance

This included character education, monthly virtues and catholic graduate expectations such as responsibility, respect, honesty, courage, empathy and resilience. Many curriculum expectations from multiple subject areas were also covered in the areas of The Arts, language, social studies and health and physical education. A study guide was also provided to educators to enhance and extend the curriculum connections for pre and post-learning.

Throughout the end of April and beginning of May, over 40 classrooms at SNCDSB participated in the six Youtube streams of the two performances. After the performance, a live Zoom meeting was hosted by Magnus Theatre and connected our students to the director, actors and actresses. We knew from our early digital portfolio data that many of our SNCDSB students are engaged and interested in the Arts as a potential career pathway. This experiential learning opportunity further supported and informed our students' pathways to success as they learned more about themselves and enhanced their understanding and exploration of the performing arts field and potential future career opportunities.
