World Teachers' Day

World Teachers' Day
Posted on 10/04/2020

UNESCO's 2020 message for World Teacher's Day: "World Teachers' Day we celebrate teachers with the theme "Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future". The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements, and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind. (UNESCO, website)"

The issue of teacher leadership in relation to crisis responses is not just timely, but critical in terms of the contributions teachers have made to provide remote learning, support vulnerable populations, re-open schools, and ensure that learning gaps have been mitigated. The discussions surrounding WTD will also address the role of teachers in building resilience and shaping the future of education and the teaching profession. (CTF.FCE.ca website)

Activities to show appreciation!

Showing appreciation doesn't necessarily come from spending money on gifts. Sometimes it's the small gestures over time that make people feel appreciated or handmade gifts. Although World Teacher's Day is celebrated on October 5th, 2020, there are things you can do every day or throughout the year to show how grateful you are.

Here are some ideas for showing appreciation to your educators:

  • Simply thank them!
  • Help out when you can
  • Tidy up after yourself
  • Make a list of reasons why you are thankful
    • Click here for a colouring page with prompts
  • Write a letter or make a presentation
    • Click here for a printable template
  • Make them a craft
    • Click here to learn how to make this
  • Draw a picture for them

We Value our Staff at Superior North Catholic District School Board

Our educators at SNCDSB have shown so much resiliency during school closure and reopening. They have supported student learning remotely, provided supports in their community, hosted drive-by graduations, and wear personal protection equipment all day at school to ensure the safety of our students. We appreciate all the educators who support our schools and students!

Please take the time today to tell your educator what you appreciate about them!
