Topic of Focus: Indigenous Education

Presenter/Facilitator: Father Cristino Bouvette

Description: The afternoon session will support all staff to build their confidence and professional capacity to integrate Indigenous-focused learning into their daily practice. All staff will be supported in discovering what reconciliation looks like in a Catholic District School Board as they work to strengthen their understanding of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and enhance their understanding of the contemporary realities of Indigenous students in their schools and communities.

Topic of Focus: Curriculum Implementation

Presenter/Facilitator: Angela Gainer

Description: This session will focus on reviewing and highlighting the OHR’s Right to Read inquiry and the connections to the revised Language Grades 1-8 curriculum. All educators will be supported in developing their capacity to use practical and effective strategies to support all students through an intentional focus on early Reading strategies and evidence-based explicit reading instruction. Staff will be supported in enhancing their use of diagnostics to support classroom instruction and interventions and inform student learning needs.

Topic of Focus: Safe, Healthy, Inclusive and Accepting Schools

Presenter/Facilitator: Online

Description: Staff will be engaged in online learning through courses offered by the Board. Anti-sex trafficking staff training and Board Policy and Protocol are included. Staff will also be introduced to the SNCDSB online sex trafficking portal that houses information and reporting tools.

Topic of Focus: Literacy and Mathematics

Presenter/Facilitator: Doug Duff

Description: We will be looking at data collected through a Board-wide common task. Schools will determine students' needs and work collaboratively to answer those needs. Doug Duff will also work with the schools to help determine best practices and interventions using individual school data that will be administered and collected throughout the year.

Topic of Focus: Student Well-Being, School Safety and Violence Prevention

Presenter/Facilitator: Morning session Tracy Bryson; Afternoon session Hannah Beach

Description: The day will explore a variety of topics on the promotion of Mental Health and Well-being. Tracy Bryson, SNCDSB Mental Health Lead,will discuss PPM 169 on Student Mental Health and explore internal and external pathways with all staff. Mental health resources will be explored to ensure that staff have the tools and understanding of how they can support and restore balance for student wellbeing. In the afternoon sessions, our Keynote speaker, Hannah Beach, will support all staff and trustees in further creating environments of emotional safety in our schools.

Topic of Focus: Report Card Preparation/Reporting 

Description: Teachers and Early Childhood Educators will work in their respective schools on report card preparation and reporting. Principals will support this work.

Topic of Focus: Board/School Improvement Planning for Student Achievement and Well-Being

Presenter/Facilitator: School Administrators

Description: This learning session will focus on the ongoing monitoring and future planning of each individual school’s Student Achievement Plan (SIPSA). The learning will be school-based in person as each school administrator will work with their school educator teams to monitor the goals of their SIPSA through data analysis (e.g. EQAO, Math Diagnostic/Formative Tasks, Report Card data, etc.). Based on the data analysis, each school will further develop its goals to ensure a continued focus on increasing student success in math and literacy, as well as engagement, well-being and belonging.

Description: To further support curriculum implementation for the 2020 Ontario Mathematics Curriculum and the 2023 Ontario Language Curriculum and in response to board/school-based data, professional learning will be provided to develop intentional instructional strategies further and enhance educators use of diagnostics and digital resources to support classroom instruction, interventions and inform student learning needs. The session will be School-based and facilitated by School Administrators as well as the System Support Team.
