It was an opportunity for our team to reflect on and grow our practice as a community of educators and a chance to develop a plan to support and celebrate the Catholic faith, culture and education within our school communities.

Sensory Path
St. Edward Catholic School Sensory Path

St. Edward Catholic School has a new feature in their primary hallway that has been exciting for all our students. The hallway features include large feet, logs and lily pads, the alphabet, a flower with numbers one to ten, cues to breathe in, breathe out, jump, hop, and various other movements. The large stickers adhere to the surface of the floor and create an engaging and stimulating environment for students to enjoy while travelling up and down the hall.

St. Edward Catholic School Truth and Reconciliation Assembly

St. Edward Catholic School honoured and showed respect on September 30, for National Truth and Reconciliation Day with a whole school assembly. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, along with their families, members of Red Rock Indian Band and Flying Post First Nation remembered Phyllis’s story and displayed their support by wearing orange shirts.

St. Hilary Experiential Learning Project - Medicine Pouches

St. Hilary Catholic School educators Ashley Muir and Lisa Copp set on a journey of fostering students and educators towards reconciliation and cultural appreciation. Classroom educators and students will learn four of the many Indigenous Cultural practices through hands-on learning. The project will be enriched by inviting Indigenous learning partners to the teachings that accompany the cultural knowledge.

At the Board meeting on April 6, 2022, the Board of Trustees voted to rescind the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for Employees, Trustees and other individuals and lift the mandatory requirement for staff to be vaccinated, immediately.

SNCDSB Students participate in Skills Ontario Hands-on Workshops

Superior North Catholic District School Board (SNCDSB) is committed to providing students with authentic hands-on learning experiences. To support this initiative, Skills Ontario delivered virtual presentations to over 17 classrooms throughout the district during the month of March. The presentations delivered a hands-on learning workshop centered around skilled trades, and technology - specifically the carpentry sector. Students from Kindergarten to Grade had the opportunity to learn about skilled trades and technology from valued learning partner Skills Ontario.

St. Hilary Photography Experiential Learning Project

Ms. Hogue and the Grade 5⁄6 class at St. Hilary Catholic School in Red Rock received an Experiential Learning Grant to purchase a class set of cameras. With the help of Tara Arps, they are learning the tips and tricks of the trade in order to help them understand how to not only use the cameras but to create eye-catching photographs.

As many of you are already aware, the Ministry of Education has instructed school boards to pivot to remote learning beginning January 5th. We will continue to provide our students with the best online learning experience we can with the least disruptions. We ask for your patience and understanding during what is a difficult time for you and your children. Please note that January 5th will be an asynchronous day for students with synchronous learning beginning on January 6th.

Ontario has designated the week beginning on the third Sunday of November as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment.⁠ ⁠ During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week – November 21-27, 2021 – Ontario students, school staff and parents are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being. To get involved with Anti-Bullying week the SNCDSB is inviting our staff and students to engage in activities and challenges throughout the week that will promote acts of kindness. Challenges are open to all students and staff within the board.

Virtual Cross Country Race
11/17/2021
St. Hilary Catholic School in Red Rock hosted a virtual cross country race this year. Schools from across the region were invited to participate virtually by hosting their own run day and submitting their results. St. Hilary school ran their school race on Wednesday, October 27th. The school had 28 runners in total complete the 2.8 km course.

Experiential Learning at Our Lady of Fatima

The Grade ⅞ students at Our Lady of Fatima constructed and built wooden benches for the schoolyard. Mrs. Savage, the classroom teacher, submitted an experiential learning proposal to obtain funding to support students' understanding and knowledge of the construction sector as a skilled trade. Students worked together to build benches to enhance the schoolyard.

In an effort to improve and maintain regular student attendance at all schools within the Superior North Catholic District School Board we are offering an exciting draw. For the entire month of November each full day a student is in attendance they get an entry in the draw for an XBOX. This means if a student attends 15 full school days in the month of November, they will get 15 entries into the draw. If they only attend 1 full day they only get 1 entry into the draw.
