Dear Parents/Guardians:
Due to the increases in COVID-19 cases in our region, Ontario and nationally, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has once again revised the travel recommendations for residents.
Effective November 24, 2020, TBDHU recommends that all residents avoid non-essential travel outside of Northwestern Ontario (previously Northern Ontario). Please see the map that has been provided to us by TBDHU which they identify as Northwestern Ontario (also posted on their website www.tbdhu.com/travel):
TBDHU recommends to cancel or postpone any current plans for non-essential travel and consider other options, including connecting or participating virtually.
If residents must travel for urgent or essential reasons, TBDHU recommends staying home for 14 days after returning to self-isolate, carefully monitoring yourself for symptoms for these 14 days, and no interaction with others outside your household, including not having visitors in your home.
TBDHU has advised that urgent or essential reasons for travel include: accessing needed medical service outside the region, urgent family issues, and essential workers' requirement to travel for work.
For the health, safety and well-being of all staff and students, SNCDSB is advising, based on guidance and recommendation from the TBDHU, that if you travel outside of Northwestern Ontario and/or Canada, you will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.
Effective immediately, all parents/guardians of students who travel outside of Northwestern Ontario and/or Canada are asked to notify the school of their travel plans and request work upon their return so their child will be marked present if they complete work at home during the self-isolation for 14 day period.
The Superior North Catholic District School Board recognizes some students may have to travel for essential reasons such as medical care or other reasons protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code. If you believe that your child may have such extenuating circumstances, you are encouraged to reach out to your school principal.
