At Superior North Catholic District School Board, we think every student should have a strong math education that helps them build basic skills and enjoy learning. In today's fast-changing world, being good at math is important for handling tough situations and grabbing future chances.

Our Math Action Plan is a detailed approach to improve math teaching and learning in our schools. By providing focused training for teachers, using new teaching methods, and ensuring everyone is included, we aim to create a supportive environment where every student can do well in math.

Working together with parents, community members, and educational partners, we will help our students reach their full potential in math, giving them the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

To support our priority for learning and student success in mathematics, we’ve invested in research-informed professional development to enhance math education across our schools.

Research highlights that improving student outcomes in math requires a threefold focus: strengthening teachers’ math content knowledge, supporting principals’ instructional leadership, and understanding the needs of individual math learners.

Our Math Achievement Action Plan is centered around three key priorities:

1. Ensuring fidelity of curriculum implementation and use of instructional and assessment practices with a proven track record of enhancing student achievement
2. Engaging in ongoing learning to strengthen mathematics content knowledge for teaching
3. Knowing the mathematics learner and ensuring mathematical tasks, interventions and supports are relevant and responsive

As a geographically large board spanning approximately 700 km and serving eight communities, we recognize the challenges of meeting our goals across such a vast region. However, with the support of technology and two full-time Math Leads, we are committed to overcoming these barriers and achieving the Key Performance Indicators outlined in our Math Achievement Action Plan.

Together, we are working to build a strong foundation in mathematics for all our students.
