Superior North Catholic District School Board would like to welcome Carlo Porretta to his new role as System Catholicity Lead. Carlo is very passionate about Catholic education in Ontario. He studied religion and politics at the University of Bologna as part of his university education and earned a Masters of History Degree from York University completing his thesis on Saint Benedict the African. After earning his Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University, Carlo worked in various Northern fly-in communities across Ontario, as well as in Manitoba and Alberta.

This year SNCDSB has rolled out a new math program that aligns with the 2020 Ontario Math curriculum. MathUp supports all educators from Kindergarten to Grade 8, and beyond.

Confederation College Visit

The Grade 7/8 students from St. Edward Catholic School and St. Hilary Catholic School travelled to Thunder Bay on Monday, March 27, to visit Confederation College. Students participated in two hands-on workshops and enjoyed a complimentary lunch in the cafeteria. The two workshops engaged students in hands-on activities related to civil engineering and film production. It was a wonderful experience for students to meet instructors and tour the campus. Students had the opportunity to visit the student lounge and get to know the campus.

Starting March 20th, 2023, the Superior North Catholic District School Board Math Team is hosting a Board-wide Reflex Challenge. Grade 1-8 teachers and students are encouraged to use Reflex at a minimum of 20 minutes to a maximum of 50 minutes per week (average 10 minutes twice a week or 10 minutes daily) to boost confidence and automaticity with their math facts. This can be done in class and/or at home

Sensory Path
St. Edward Catholic School Sensory Path

St. Edward Catholic School has a new feature in their primary hallway that has been exciting for all our students. The hallway features include large feet, logs and lily pads, the alphabet, a flower with numbers one to ten, cues to breathe in, breathe out, jump, hop, and various other movements. The large stickers adhere to the surface of the floor and create an engaging and stimulating environment for students to enjoy while travelling up and down the hall.

Superior North Catholic District School Board (SNCDSB) is committed to providing students with authentic hands-on learning experiences. To support this initiative, Skills Ontario delivered virtual presentations to over 17 classrooms throughout the district during the month of March. The presentations delivered a hands-on learning workshop centered around skilled trades, and technology - specifically the carpentry sector. Students from Kindergarten to Grade had the opportunity to learn about skilled trades and technology from valued learning partner Skills Ontario.

With the help of Tara Arps, they are learning the tips and tricks of the trade in order to help them understand how to not only use the cameras but to create eye-catching photographs.
